Contact your congressional representative in Washington and tell them you
are against reinstatement of the draft.
Your children will have to start thinking about what war means to them
personally:
- Is being against the draft unpatriotic?
- How would they feel if they had to hurt or kill someone?
- Can they imagine being in a hostile, dangerous environment, where
they could be wounded, maimed, or killed?
- Are they philosophically or, because of their religious beliefs,
against fighting in a war? (If so, they might be eligible for
conscientious objector status.)
Many veterans have had to live with nightmares, some unable to live a normal
life. Too many are now homeless and are not supported by the government
that sent them to fight.
